The Giants football dynasty began in 1925 when Tim Mara invested $500 to establish the New York Giants. This iconic team, legally known as the “New York Football Giants,” wasn’t the first professional football squad in the region. In 1919, Charles Stoneham, owner of the New York Giants baseball team, had promoted a football team with the same name in the AFL. That team became the Brooklyn Giants in 1921 but folded in 1923. When the NFL sought expansion, they approached the defunct Giants’ owner, Billy Gibson, who referred them to Mara. The Mara family remains the principal owners of this Giants football dynasty today.

The New York Giants were among five teams joining the league in 1925, though they’re the only one still active. Their inaugural game, a 26-0 victory against All New Britain, took place on October 5th, 1925 in Connecticut. In those early years, NFL teams faces frequent changes. A landmark game in December 1930 settled this debate when the G-Men faced Knute Rockne’s Notre Dame team, featuring the famous Four Horsement backfield. The Giants franchise history is rich with championship victories. They clinched NFL Championships in 1927, 1934, and 1938. From1931 to 1953, Steve Owen coached the team, working on a handshake agreement throughout his tenure. In 1958, the New York Giants lost a pivotal game to the Baltimore Colts, 23-17 in overtime. Decades of Struggle and Resurgence
The Giants football dynasty faced challenges as the team experienced a 20-year slump with only two winning seasons. However, the hiring of Bill Parcells as head coach and George Young as general managers revitalized the franchise. Under their leadership, Blue Blue clinched Super Bowl victories in 1986 and 1990.
The 1986 team was led by league MVP Lawrence Taylor, one of the most renowned Giants Hall of Famers and the last defensive player to earn this honor.
