10 Wellness Tips for a Healthier, Balanced Lifestyle

There are several things that one can do for oneself to lead a healthier, balanced lifestyle.  A comprehensive approach to one’s wellness involves nurturing one’s physical, mental and even spiritual well-being.  The following 10 wellness tips to consider incorporating into one’s life:

  1. Nutrition

A healthy diet is a cornerstone to one’s health.  Embracing a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats.  Be mindful of your percentages of proteins, carbohydrates and fats in your daily intake.

  • Physical Activity

Exercise is essential for a healthier lifestyle.  Engaging in regular physical activity enhances cardiovascular health, strengthens the body, and even boosts mood through the release of endorphins.  Try to find a balance between primarily cardiovascular activities (ex walking) and strengthen resistance activities.  The general recommendation is for physical activity of some kind almost every day of the week.

How many hours should one sleep every night?

Every one is different, but the need for sufficient sleep is a universal need.  The body rejuvenates and heals while one sleeps.  Recommendations suggest anywhere from 7 – 9 hours of sleep every night to help prepare you for the next day.  For those having difficulty going to sleep, it generally has been shown that reading in bed before going to sleep is not beneficial in falling asleep easier.
